Deed of Gift. Wm. Clift to his Son Jas. W. Clift.

For The love and affection I entertain for my son James W. Clift I do hereby give transfer and convey to The aforesaid James W. Clift a certain tract or parcel of land in The State of Tennessee and County of Hamilton and in The 12th Civil district thereof containing by estimation four hundred acres of land be the same more or less and is bounded as follows to wit

Beginning on a Black Walnut tree on The west bank of Tennessee River marked as a Corner and running Thence North 54o West 216 poles to a large post Oak and a Black Oak & hickory pointers Thence south 36o West 40 poles to two Chestnut Bushes to a pine Thence N 54o W 80 poles to a white Oak Thence N 25o E 130 poles to a post Oak Thence S. 54o E. 66 poles to a post Oak in The back line of The original survey made by McClung & Cosby to Capt. Wm. McGill Thence N 25o East with The original line of The aforesaid survey to a stake on The Bank of Opossom Creek Corner to said Original Survey Thence down Opossom Creek as it meanders to The mouth of said Creek and to The beginning Corner of The original survey as aforesaid Thence with The Tennessee River as it meanders South 30o W 62 poles to a Locust Thence South 36o W 70 poles to a bunch of Maples Thence south 36o West 80 poles to The beginning.

To have and to hold to The said James W. Clift his heirs and representatives forever with all the appurtenances thereto except The pine timber which is hereby reserved for my own use and benefit during my natural lifetime and no longer. I covenant and agree for myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and defend The title to The said tract of land all except the pine timber as aforesaid to the said James W. Clift against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever. Witness my hand and seal this 16 day of August 1858.
