Book L Pages 54-5-6-7 S A McKenzie Deed of Trust to Bicknell & Cannon No 24.
This indenture made and entered into this 23rd day of April 1839 by and between Saml. A McKenzie of the first part and Samuel Bicknell and Guilford Cannon of the other part all of Monroe County and State of Tennessee whereas the said Samuel A McKenzie being desirous of attaining an accomodation by loan in the branch bank of Tennessee at Athens for the sum of four hundred dollars and to enable him to do so the said Saml Bicknell and Guilford Cannon have endorsed a note for the sum aforesaid payable negoiated in said branch due four months after date drawn by the said Samuel A McKenzie dated the 25th April 1839 and which note is also this day Discounted in Said Bank and which said Note is contemplated remain or take up and later pay off when called on and the said Samuel McKenzie being desirous to secure the said Bicknell & Cannon all Responsibility as endorsers of the Note aforesaid therefore this indenture Witnesseth that the said Samuel A McKenzie as will for the securing his said endorsers from the payment of the notes aforesaid as for the consideration of one Dollar to him in hand paid by the said Bicknell and Cannon at and before the Sealing and delivering thereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and Sold and by these presents do bargain and Sell unto the said Samuel Bicknell and Guilford Cannon their heirs &c

the following property (viz) ten bedstead beds and furniture one fine Side board one Safe two large cherry bureaus two small bureaus one press top eight large and Small tables Sixteen Windsor Chairs twenty s--- bottom chairs one fine Clock one writing desk & Book case with all therein contained one large map of the United States twelve picture frames six looking glasses four sets knives and forks four Sets cups & saucers three Dozen plates and dishes half a dozen Runpool and delph dishes ten Brass Candle Sticks two Candle Stands five pair fire dogs one large wash Kettle one bay pony and one Sorrel horse and one dark colored Cow and Calf

to have and to hold all said property unto the said Samuel Bicknell and Guilford Cannon and their heirs &c to the only proper use and behoof of the said Bicknell and Cannon their heirs &c. provided nevertheless that if the said Sam A McKenzie his heirs or assigns shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Bank the said note of four hundred dollars when the same shall fall due or by by other Lawful means save and keep harmless and indemnified the said Bicknell and Cannon their heirs &c for the payment of said note and all costs and damages as Securities aforesaid then and from thenceforth as will the present Indenture note of four hundred Dollars shall cease determine and become absolutely null and void In witness whereof the said Sam A McKenzie has hereunto Set his hand and Seal this the date above written
