A deed of Trust from John Friddle to John Wright for personal property.
This Indenture made & entered into this 16th day of July one thousand eight hundred & thirty four between John Friddle of the first part & Samuel A. McKenzie of the second part & John Wright of the third part all of the county of Roane & State of Tennessee. Witnesseth that Whereas the said Friddle stands indebted to the said John Wright in the first sum of Eighty one dollars to be paid in Twelve months from the date hereof & the said Friddle being desirous to secure the payment of said thirty eighty one dollars & every part thereof & for & in consideration of the sum of five dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged  hath bargained & sold & by these presents do bargain & sell with the said Samuel A. McKenzie his heirs &c

the following property (viz) one blond sorrel mare, one bay mare One chesnutt sorrel horse thirty [1 ½ line illegible] furniture one Saddle one Corner Cupboard & furniture one Stove.

to have & to hold all said property as belonging to said his heirs &c for the purpose hereinafter mentioned & for no other use or purpose whatever viz. That in case the said Friddle shall fail to pay unto the said Wright the said sum of Eighty one dollars with interest on or before the sixteenth day of July 1835 That then & in that case it shall & may be lawful for the said McKenzie & he is hereby authorized & required by giving ten days notice by advertisement to proceed to sell all said property at public sale to the highest bidder for ready money & out of the proceeds of said sale to pay necessary expences of attending said sale & also to pay to said John Wright the said sum of Eighty one dollars interest &c. and the overplus in any to return to the said Friddle but if the said Friddle shall well & truly pay & satisfy said debt &c without sale of said property as aforesaid Then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force & virtue. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals the day & year first above written.
